The song titled “Turn the Page” was originally released by Bob Seger in 1973 as part of his album “Back in ’72.” Although it was issued as a single, it failed to chart. However, Seger’s live rendition of the song, featured on the 1976 album “Live Bullet,” has since become a staple on album-oriented rock radio stations and continues to receive significant airplay on classic rock stations.
“Turn the Page” delves into the emotional and social highs and lows experienced by a rock musician while on tour.
Both the studio and live versions of “Turn the Page” by Seger showcase the distinctive sounds of a mellotron and a saxophone, skillfully performed by Alto Reed, a founding member of the Silver Bullet band. It is worth noting that Tom Weschler played a pivotal role in inspiring Reed to craft the opening melody. During the recording process, Weschler provided Reed with a vivid image, saying, “Alto, imagine this: You’re in New York City, standing on the Bowery. It’s 3 a.m., and a gentle mist is falling. You’re all alone under a streetlamp. Show me the sound of that moment.” With those words, Reed played the opening melody of “Turn the Page.”
